JOIN THE PROJECT |
As a component of the YAYIP project, the pupils at Porepunkah Primary School have been participating in a program which we have titled "Kumamadjin Art". Kumamadjin is an Aboriginal word meaning "come together" and it befits our purposes beautifully. This year our weekly program of special Art/Craft activites started in April and concluded very succesfully in National Reconcilliation Week. | ![]() |

The activites invovled researching indigenous languages to find appropriate names for birds animals or plants which could be used on place mats or illustrated wooden key racks. Materials for the 'Place Mats' consisted of A4 paper, poster card, clear contact, colored pencils and marker pens. Production of the plywood key racks involved the use of coping saws, wood burners and clear lacquer. |

The simple and basic designs of the 'Placemats' and 'Key Racks' make them easy to make - but still requiring imagination and creativity to add the personal touch. Many other artistic and craft orientated activities could also be easily adapted to fit the theme including: paintings, textiles, sculpture, metal work, furniture construction, bead work and electronic imaging....... VISIT GALEENA BEEK |
Special thanks and appreciation must go to the 'GALEENA BEEK' Living Cultural Centre in Healsville, Victoria. With their kind and generous support we were able to obtain excellent materials including word lists of the "Woi Wurrung" language to help with our endeavours. Please take the time to visit their web site! | ![]() |
